ParaDISE available for download

*ParaDISE* (*Para*llel *D*istributed *I*mage *S*earch
*E*ngine) is an image retrieval engine developed by the
medGIFT research group as a replacement of the GIFT search
engine in the context of the KHRESMOI project. The main
concepts behind its design are scalability, flexibility,
expandability and interoperability, allowing it to be used
in standalone applications, integrated systems and for

1st place at the BHI 2014 Student Best Paper Rapid Fire Session

The MedGIFT group (of Khresmoi partner University of Applied
Science Western Switzerland) won the 1st place at
the International Conference on Biomedical Health
Informatics (BHI) 2014 : Student Best Rapid Fire Session.
The paper 'Multi Atlas-Based Segmentation with an Intensity
Feature Refinement' by Oscar A. Jiménez del Toro and
Henning Müller was presented during the session 'Big Data

Fifth Khresmoi Newsletter published

The fifth Khresmoi Newsletter is available online. It
contains an overview of the image search technologies being
developed. These technologies have the goal of making the
work of radiologists more efficient by providing visual
search capabilities for MRI and CT images in the hospital
image archives, as well as for images published in the

Quantification in MRI using Contralateral 3D Texture
Comparisons' by Oscar Alfonso Jimenez del Toro, Antonio

Müller and Adrien Depeursinge was awarded with the MICCAI

Results of Khresmoi Physician Survey published in JMIR

The paper Utilization and Perceived Problems of Online
Medical Resources and Search Tools Among Different Groups of
European Physicians contains the results of the survey of
physicians carried out in Khresmoi. It is published in the

Khresmoi exhibit at the RSNA 2013
21/06/2013
The Khresmoi project will present their radiology prototypes
at the 2013 RSNA conference in Chicago, IL, USA. With about
60'000 visitors this is the biggest conference in the world
in radiology. Khresmoi will have a booth during the entire
conference presenting the prototypes and discussing these
prototypes with interested radiologists and the companies

Khresmoi Professional beta prototype released

A beta version of the Khresmoi Professional prototype is now
available. This prototype is aimed at medical professionals.
It provides tools such as faceted search, multilingual
search, a Personal Library for storing articles and query

The paper Skull Retrieval for Craniosynostosis Using Sparse
Logistic Regression Models (Shulin Yang, Linda Shapiro,
Michael Cunningham, Matthew Speltz, Craig Birgfeld,
Indriyati Atmosukarto, Su-In Lee) was awarded the best paper
prize at the Medical Content-based Retrieval for Clinical
Decision Support Workshop (MCBR-CDS 2012) held at the MICCAI

Khresmoi at the RSNA 2012

The Khresmoi clinical radiology prototype will be
demonstrated at the annual meeting of the Radiological
Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, USA from
November 25th to 30th 2012. In addition to the complete
system, a further exhibit will focus on the pathology
retrieval. A third exhibit will detail the performance of
various local image descriptors in the context of lung

META-NET Language Whitepapers released

META-NET has been working on a series of Language
Whitepapers on "Europe’s Languages in the Digital Age."
The series, covering 31 languages and with over 200
contributing authors is the result of a significant combined
effort across the whole continent to document and state the

Norbert Fuhr presented with the Gerard Salton Award

Norbert Fuhr, Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen,
a partner in the Khresmoi project, was presented with the
Gerard Salton Award at the SIGIR 2012 Conference. The award
honours his pioneering, sustained, and continuing
contributions to the theoretical foundations of information

Summer School on Image Processing 2012

Khresmoi is co-organising the Summer School on Image
Processing 2012 in Vienna, Austria from July 4th to July
13th 2012. This year, it will have a focus on medical image
processing and analysis. Half of each day will be devoted to
lectures, with the remaining time used for practical work on

KHRESMOI at the Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) 2011

workshop "Aspects of Medical Information Search" at the MIE

Interactive demo session of medical retrieval systems at ImageCLEF 2011

This session is designed to foster research in Interactive
Information Retrieval and user seeking behavior of medical
images. Aspects that could be explored include the users'
needs and behaviors when they search for medical images as
well as comparison of different interfaces. Groups that are
interested in testing the human computer interaction aspects
of the image retrieval problem as well as researchers
interested in exploring issues related to user seeking
